Description

The Gauley River of West Virginia is one of the top whitewater rivers in the world with many class 4 and 5 rapids. Gauley season is only for a few weeks of September and October each year. We will be doing the Gauley Marathon which consists of rafting both the upper and lower sections of the river in one run of 23 miles! It will be quite an epic adventure. OCVT has worked out a great price for the 14' raft and if there is enough interest, you can also choose the 12' raft (more advanced).

PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS

SAFETY: Beginner friendly, but YOU MUST KNOW HOW TO SWIM. Rafting can be dangerous. When boats flip, you need to be able to swim back to the boat.

COST: OCVT has secured an awesome discount price with ACE Adventure Resort: $153.34 for the 14' raft, including camping the night before. If you do not want to camp at ACE, your price will be $141.68. Both of these prices include all fees and taxes. BE SURE to TIP YOUR GUIDE as they work hard to make sure you have a fun and safe rafting adventure. Also, ACE has an excellent breakfast buffet and it's very much recommended to rent a full wetsuit (not included). Lunch on the river is included. And don't forget to bring a few bucks for your driver if you're riding.

GETTING THERE: You need to be on the bench at ACE at 6:00 AM sharp. DO NOT BE LATE! If you leave Sunday morning, do realize it is close to a 2-hour drive. Personally I would recommend camping Saturday night.

TELL ME WHEN YOU PLAN TO LEAVE: In the "bringing" field on the sign-up tell me if you want to camp or leave in the morning. I will then put you in touch with other attendees with the same plans so you can work out rides. If you leave the field blank you're on your own to get yourself to ACE on time.

PAYMENT: After you sign up, you will need to call ACE at 1-800-787-3982 and pay in advance - DO NOT WAIT. Tell them you are with the Outdoor Club at Virginia Tech and that your reservation # is 136566.
