Discussion Forums

Besides meetings or actually going out on trips the discussion forum is our main place to socialize and make plans. Please join us to plan trips, discuss trips, trade gear, or talk with everyone about anything. This is the place you want to go to ask questions and get them answered. The discussions can be as in depth as you want them to be and you can avoid clogging up the listserve.

To send and receive announcements to or from the club subscribe to our listserv. It's easy. All you need to do is click here and hit send to subscribe to the OCVT listserv. This process works only for emails at the @vt.edu domain. If you want to use a different mail server (@yahoo.com for instance), contact Chris at cglomb@vt.edu. After you subscribe, come to a meeting to meet the rest of the crew.

Once you subscribe to the listserv, you will be able to post messages. Remember that your posts will be read by everybody subscribed to the listserv (several hundred people), so please follow these simple rules when posting messages:

Keep the messages on topic. This includes messages regarding club business or any outdoor activities.
Make sure the message is relevant to everyone. Do not use the listserv to contact only one or a few people who might be on it.
When responding to an email received from the listserv, make sure your response only goes out to the person who sent the original message, unless you think your message applies to everyone.
Political emails and company advertisements will not be allowed. However, you may use the listserv to advertise any personal outdoor gear that you may be selling.
If you are unsure whether your message is suitable for the listserv, send it to one of the club officers first. They will review it and let you know.
Use your common sense. Several hundred people may be signed up on the listserv at any time, so don't give out any private information that you may not want a lot of people knowing.

If you decide you don't want to be on the listserv anymore, click here and hit send to unsubscribe from the OCVT listserv. That's it. If you have problems, contact Chris at cglomb@vt.edu.
